If you follow K-BEAUTY you will have no doubt have heard of the famous 10-step skin routines. At first, the 10-step Korean skincare regimen may sound very daunting. However, in Korea, where skin first philosophy-the 10-step routine is one of the main reasons for flawless, healthy skin.
The 10-step routine is here as a guide and is not something to be viewed as rigid. As long as you understand your skin and the steps required you can customised the routine to suit your needs.
Here’s a breakdown of each step as a guide for you
#1 Oil Cleanser
Starting your skin as a blank canvas is crucial so as the first step you will need to clean all make up and impurities on your skin with make up remover if required. Part one of the double cleansing starts with an oil cleanser.
When and How To: PM routine, massage all over face and neck and rinse off with lukewarm water.

#2 Water-based/foam cleanser
After removing your make-up and impurities with an oil cleanser, part two of the double cleansing method requires you continue washing your face with a water-based cleanser. This will assist removing any remaining residue and impurities from the first step
When and How To: Use an appropriate amount, add water and lather, massage all over face and neck and rinse off with lukewarm water.

While it’s not recommended to over exfoliate, especially if you have very sensitive skin. It is still a crucial step to remove dead skin, promote cell turnover, unclog pores to allow your skin to better absorb your skin care products.
When and How To: Use twice a week, gently massage all over face and neck and rinse off with water.

Toners are used to restore moisture and balance your skin PH levers
When and How To: Use hand or cotton pad and gently tap/swipe on face.

Essence may be something that is totally new to you. Yet it is another crucial step in the Korean skin care routine. A hybrid between a toner and a serum, combining prepping properties of a toner and treatment of a serum. This step is the core in both Korean and Japanese skin care routine for its ability to repair your skin and help cell turnover.
When and How To: After toner, tap and pat to clean skin.

#7 Sheet Masks
Sheet masks, one of our favourites rituals. They are packed with deeply hydrating ingredients, providing instant effects. There are so many varieties to choose from and you can do it once or seven times a week. Keep in mind to not leave it on longer than the prescribed time as the sheet mask will begin to try and suck the moisture from your skin
When and How To: Use at least once a week, tap and leave on face as per instruction

#8 Eye Cream
The skin around your eye is thinner and more delicate than the rest of your face, making it prone to fine lines. An eye cream provides extra care for the fragile area.
When and How To: Use ring finger to gently tap in the cream

This is the final step in your night-time routine. Moisturisers hydrate the skin, and reinforce the natural skin barrier. Moisturisers come in as cream, gel or facial oil.
When and How To: Apply cream and gel moisturisers by using upward stroking motions. If you’re using an oil, a gentle pressing motion using your palm.

#10 Sun Protection
Do not forget your sunscreen come rain or shine, summer or winter. Suncreen prevents skin cancer and is the most effective way to prevent premature aging.
